About The Artist



M. WARTELLA is the cartoonist who created the highly-recognizable cover art for fast-food expose CHEW ON THIS which topped the New York Times children's bestseller list in 2006. Having published his first weekly newspaper cartoon at age ten, Wartella was tapped in 2007 to write and draw a weekly editorial cartoon for THE VILLAGE VOICE in New York City, where he lives.

In 1998, Wartella was profiled by THE NEW YORK TIMES as a pioneer of web-based animation, and since that time he has drawn animated segments for MTV’s cult hit WONDER SHOWZEN (2005-2006) and contributed to the animation in the recent feature film THE TEN (2007). He has directed music videos that have appeared on MTV, storyboarded segments for Comedy Central and is a writer for the Cartoon Network’s late night Adult Swim show SUPERJAIL. Additionally, he is a creative contributor to the popular WACKY PACKAGES series of collectible trading cards from TOPPS.

As an illustrator and a cartoonist he has contributed to Harper’s BAZAAR, Interview, SPIN, Arthur, VICE, and Nickelodeon magazines, among others. His work has appeared in D.C. Comics' anthology BIZARRO WORLD as well as the Eisner and Harvey Awards nominated anthology HOTWIRE from FANTAGRAPHICS Books.
